The population as of 2017 was 79,101 and is located in the northwest half of Macomb County, 30 miles north of downtown Detroit.  It borders Rochester, Washington, Macomb Twp, and Utica/Sterling Heights and has several walking/biking trails. It also offers access to Stony Creek, Metro Park.

Shelby Township, MI Information

Travel - M-53 is the main throughway into Shelby Township, and it runs north and south with easy access to 26 Mile on the north end and Hall Road /M-59 on the south end and 23 Mile in between, all of which provide good east-west access. There are also several other main roads running north and south. It also has access to both major expressways I-94 and I-75. It borders Washington Township to the north, Sterling Heights to the south, Rochester Hills to the west, and Macomb Twp to the east.

Shopping - As for shopping, there are three large shopping malls within 10 -20 minutes - Lakeside Mall, Partridge Creek, and the Village of Rochester Hills. There are also several strip malls in the area with small businesses, numerous restaurants, and large name-brand stores.

Education - Shelby Township consists of 3 school districts. Most of Shelby Twp is covered by the Utica school district, but there is a small section in the northern part that is Romeo schools and a small section near the mid-west border that is Rochester schools. You are within 10 minutes of Macomb Community College where you can receive an associate's degree and through Macomb University a bachelor's and master's degree. Also in neighboring Rochester, Michigan, you will find Oakland University which offers 132 baccalaureate degree programs and 117 graduate degree and certificate programs.

Hospitals - Henry Ford Macomb Hospital located in nearby Clinton Township offers 435 beds, along with a heart center, cancer center, birthing center, and more. Children's Hospital of Michigan Stilson Specialty Center is also located in Clinton Township and offers all types of pediatric specialties. Just west in Macomb Township is the Beaumont Medical Center along with several other large hospitals throughout Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties.

Theater - Macomb Center for the Performing Arts is located just south in Clinton Township and features various shows like the Letterman, Ann Margaret, Larry Gatlin, and the Gatlin Brothers, Lou Rawls, and The Temptations. On the grounds of Oakland University, you will find The Meadow Brook Theatre which also offers high-quality entertainment.

Government - The Shelby Township offices are located at 52700 Van Dyke Ave on the south/east corner of Van Dyke and 24 Mile, and the phone number is 586-731-5969. Contact the Department of Public Works (DPW) for final water reading. The township currently uses GFL Environmental Services for waste services.

There are walking paths in and out of Shelby Township and right into Stony Creek Metro Park There are also several small parks and thanks to the Shelby DDA the are plenty of things to including several golf courses in the area including right in Shelby.
