Recently, I read an article titled “Cheap House Improvements Under $500 That Will Increase the Value.” The article gave some great tips on what you could do around your house to increase value but not spend all that money. Firework Safety Tips

Fireworks can be very beautiful, but extremely dangerous as well! 




Here are some recommended Safety Tips directly from the National Council on Firework Safety website:

  • Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks.
  • Know your fireworks; read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions before igniting.
  • A responsible adult SHOULD supervise all firework activities.  Never give fireworks to children.
  • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix.  Save your alcohol for after the show.
  • Wear safety glasses when shooting fireworks.
  • Light one firework at a time and then quickly move away.
  • Use fireworks OUTDOORS in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles.
  • Never relight a “dud”

Summer time is here which means that we are outdoors a lot more. Well...with the increase in the tick sightings in Macomb County suburbs, I thought it was important to let our readers know what the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Protection) recommends for you to check for ticks after being outside. You may think that because you live in a subdivision, condo, or apartment, that you don't have to worry about ticks. I am here to tell you that everyone who spends time outdoors, in grass, or any type of vegetation should know what to look for and what the signs are if you find a tick that has latched on to you. Tips & Tricks Tuesday – Menu Planning – Part 2: The Basics

Last week I gave you all the reasons you should menu plan, so now let’s get down to the basics! Where to start? Well, first sit everyone down at the table with a pen and paper (or if it’s just you then get out a notebook and get writing). Have everyone go around and tell what their favorite meal is and jot it down. If you are having trouble coming up with meals, grab your cookbooks or check out recipes online. You can even find menu-planning apps on your smartphone app store! One of my favorite apps is “SparkRecipes”, you can search for virtually any recipe. Tips & Tricks Tuesday – Menu Planning Part 1: WHY?

 I have always been a fan of menu planning, for me it just makes life easier. Some people are not convinced that menu planning is beneficial, but today I hope to convince our readers to try it for at least a week!

There is nothing worse than getting home from a long day of work/school (or whatever your day brought you)….and you open the fridge, trying to figure out what to eat….only to find out that there is nothing in the fridge to readily consume. So, you turn to the most logical dinner…something quick and easy. You end up ordering pizza, getting takeout, or just diving into the bag of snacks that is conveniently located in the pantry. Oh, the dreaded “junk” drawer! Well…maybe “junk” is not the best word to use! Not EVERYTHING in the drawer is junk, some could simply not in its correct home. So, for now let’s call it “that” drawer. You know…. “that” drawer that when the doorbell rings you clear off your counter directly into it, or…you don’t have a home for something and you figure you will dump it in “that” drawer to eventually organize it but it keeps getting worse and worse.
