Marcus Bar & Grill, Shelby Township
Marcus Grill isn’t like the chain restaurants that we often see on the corner, rather they pride themselves on quality of food made from scratch!
According to their website, Marcus Grill has been in business for 83 years and counting.... The origin of Marcus dates back to 1929 when Charles Marcus invented the original “Marcus burger” in Detroit. It was the hotspot at lunch hours for the local factory workers! For a more detailed history, visit their website.
Currently, three generations are proudly upholding the Marcus Burger legacy, which means that at any given time, you will be greeted by someone from the family (parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.) Marcus Grill is known not only for their burgers, but their homemade Polish platters. These signature meals are made fresh daily. That’s right, everything from the main course, to the gravy, to even the tartar sauce is made in house! Preparing and cooking sometimes starts as early as 4am! While we are all sleeping, they have begun to prepare the homemade dumplings for chicken soup and filling for the pierogis! The stuffed cabbage is hand rolled and the city chicken is skewered by hand. They have mastered these and many more traditional Polish dishes…oh and let’s not forget the dill pickle soup!
Rooms Realty owner Ed Knight recently interviewed the manager of Marcus Grill. He asked him what he liked most about being in Shelby Township and his response was: Marcus Bar & Grill has a “very loyal clientele, the area is very good, and it's building up like crazy.” When asked what he felt Marcus Grill specialized in, his response was: “we are well known for two things: the Marcus burger-specialty hamburger that is slide into a hot dog bun and for our homemade Polish food.”
