Kayak the Clinton River
Did you know that you can paddle your way down the Clinton River? No need to drive up to the Au Sable or Rifle River to have an awesome kayak experience! You can do so without leaving Macomb County. According to the Make Macomb Your Home website, “you can kayak (or canoe) 42 miles of the Clinton River and with several local outfitters to choose from, getting out on this waterway is an easy, affordable and fun thing to do.” On the Clinton River page of the website, they go on to discuss that while it may be a fun trip, you should always be prepared for the dangers. According to the website, “some stretches of the Clinton River are NOT for beginners! Several sections, particularly between Dequindre Road in Rochester Hills and Van Dyke in Utica, should be paddled only by experienced kayakers. The lower river, from Budd Park in Clinton Township downstream to Mt. Clemens, is the best stretch for beginners.”
