Simple Slow Cooker Chili

This chili recipe has been a go-to for Andrea's kitchen for a while. She has used it so long and the recipe is so warn that we cannot find the source, but we can tell you that it is DELICIOUS! This is a thick n' hearty chili that can be a staple in your kitchen during the upcoming fall months, or if you are like some of us....ALL year round! Please give it a try and let us know what you think! 

2 pounds ground beef (browned and drained)

½ cup dried minced onion or 1 large onion, chopped

1 large can (28 ounces) diced “chili ready” or “chili seasoned” tomatoes with liquid

1 can (12 -14 ounces) tomato puree

1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, drained

1 can (4 ounces) diced green chilies, with liquid

1 teaspoon

Back to School Resolutions!

Those who have school aged children or grandchildren can benefit from coming up with Back-to-School resolutions. Start on August 1st and have each family member come up with something that they would like to do better this school year. By the time school starts, you will have had a month to develop some really great motivational resolutions. You could include the following on your list or simply come up with your own:

  1. Set out clothes the night before
  2. Develop a breakfast and/or lunch menu plan (we discussed this last week in our blog last week)
  3. Wake up 10 minutes early so there is no rushing
  4. Get backpack and everything needed for school ready the night before
  5. Join a new sport, club, or activity (for the

Charles R. Swindoll said "life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it." Well...I say the key to this message is to not react at all....initially. Give your problem, concern, situation time to sink in before you make a reaction. They often say that if you get an email, text, voice message, etc. that upsets you....SIT ON IT. You can type a response, but don't send it until you have slept on it. I have learned this lesson the hard way, but that is how we learn...by making mistakes. When planning this blog, I figured I could go a couple different routes with this quote, but the best thing I could think of is to give you some tips to do BEFORE you respond:

Creamy Steak Fettuccine

  

Another yummy, yummy recipe TESTED...AND....LOVED! This recipe was courtesy of Delish and it is going to be a DEFINITE regular in my house! I was asked by a special someone to come over for dinner and the menu was a "new" recipe that they were trying out. We all know how it is when you haven't tasted the dish before or even tried making the dish before, you never know what to expect. This recipe was relatively simple to make (or so I was told since I just got to eat it) and based on the ingredients, it seems simple enough for even those just starting out in their "home" cooking lifestyle. It really is a restaurant quality recipe.

Get UP and Move!

With this heat wave, it is very hard to stay motivated to reach your fitness goals! Here are a few quick tips to still get your workout in even when the temperatures climb above 90.

  1. Move your exercising time to early in the morning or later at night. If you exercise routine has you outdoors, these are the perfect times to beat the heat! The early morning hours before the sun gets hot is a great time to squeeze in that workout and energize yourself for the day. The evening hours are also a great time, because it is not only cooler but also because you can walk or run off your stress from the day.
  2. Break your workout up into smaller increments. According to the CDC website, it is just as beneficial to break up your workouts

Cajun Shrimp Boil

I recently had the most amazing meal with shrimp! It was relatively healthy and packed with a TON of flavor. I definitely went back for seconds! I even ate the leftovers the next day (it can be reheated or eaten cold...straight out of the fridge.) My favorite part of this whole recipe is that you only use one pot! So it is super easy cleanup AND delicious.

So what makes this recipe great? Well its ALL in the seasoning! This recipe was tested several different ways before the final recipe was mastered. There are a lot of Shrimp Boil recipes out there, but this one is Rooms Realty® tasted and approved! The key ingredient in this whole recipe is the Zatarain’s Shrimp & Crab Boil seasoning. Nothing else compares to it!

 Motivational Monday - SMART Goals

Goals

When setting goals, you need to identify short-term AND long-term goals. Make sure your goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time limited). Regardless of your goal, whether it is big, small, short-term, or long-term, it should meet the SMART criteria. Setting a SMART goal vastly increases the odds of accomplishing your goals. Encourage yourself to start with smaller, short-term goals but have one or two long-term goals as well. You want to be able to check off those little boxes as you are working toward the bigger picture! Don't forget to reward yourself along the way. 

What are your goals? Are they SMART? Take a moment this week to reassess them to make sure!
