Cajun Shrimp Boil
I recently had the most amazing meal with shrimp! It was relatively healthy and packed with a TON of flavor. I definitely went back for seconds! I even ate the leftovers the next day (it can be reheated or eaten cold...straight out of the fridge.) My favorite part of this whole recipe is that you only use one pot! So it is super easy cleanup AND delicious.
So what makes this recipe great? Well its ALL in the seasoning! This recipe was tested several different ways before the final recipe was mastered. There are a lot of Shrimp Boil recipes out there, but this one is Rooms Realty® tasted and approved! The key ingredient in this whole recipe is the Zatarain’s Shrimp & Crab Boil seasoning. Nothing else compares to it!
2 -3 pounds of fresh shrimp
1 large sweet onion (quartered)
2 full garlic pods
¼ cup of vegetable or olive oil
¼ cup distilled white vinegar
¾ cup Zatarain’s Shrimp & Crab boil
5 lemons (halved)
2 pounds of baby redskin potatoes (halved)
6 ears of sweet corned (halved)
2 -3 tablespoons of salt
5 bay leaves
Fill a large 8 -12 quart pot with water. Leave about 6 inches from the top of the pot to allow for the other ingredients to fit. Begin seasoning the water with oil, vinegar, Zatarain’s Shrimp & Crab boil, salt, bay leaves, sweet onion, and lemons. Bring water to a rolling boil and allow to boil for 10 minutes.
Drop in the potatoes and allow to boil for an additional 10 minutes. Then drop in the corn and allow to boil for 5 minutes. Finally, place in the shrimp and boil for another 5 minutes. The shrimp are done when they turn pink and rise to the top. Turn off the burner and let the pot sit for a couple of minutes. Do not leave it for more than 5 minutes because the shrimp will get overcooked and too hard to peel. Carefully drain the pot with all ingredients into a colander. Serve immediately.
You can always substitute shrimp for crab and you can always add Polish sausage to give the whole boil a different flavor profile.
