Get UP and Move!
With this heat wave, it is very hard to stay motivated to reach your fitness goals! Here are a few quick tips to still get your workout in even when the temperatures climb above 90.
- Move your exercising time to early in the morning or later at night. If you exercise routine has you outdoors, these are the perfect times to beat the heat! The early morning hours before the sun gets hot is a great time to squeeze in that workout and energize yourself for the day. The evening hours are also a great time, because it is not only cooler but also because you can walk or run off your stress from the day.
- Break your workout up into smaller increments. According to the CDC website, it is just as beneficial to break up your workouts into 10-15 minute increments as it is to do the whole suggested amount of time (75 to 150 minutes a day for adults depending on the activity.) This allows your body to get moving, but you do not have to overexert yourself in the extreme heat.
- Bring it indoors without getting that expensive gym membership. During the heat, it is a great time to utilize those streaming workouts on your TV or the workout DVDs that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Or you can take your best pair of walking shoes to an indoor mall to get in that workout. You can even invest in a bike training wheel and stand that allows you to ride your bike right inside your home, this is a much cheaper option that purchasing exercise equipment for your home.
- Add more steps into your normal day if you can't fit that workout in during cooler times outside. You can add steps into your normal work day by taking that stairs instead of the elevator at work or park your car in the furthest spot from your building.
These are just a couple ways to get out and get motivated even during the extreme heat! Remember what ever workout that you do, to make sure that you stay hydrated!
