Simple Slow Cooker Chili

This chili recipe has been a go-to for Andrea's kitchen for a while. She has used it so long and the recipe is so warn that we cannot find the source, but we can tell you that it is DELICIOUS! This is a thick n' hearty chili that can be a staple in your kitchen during the upcoming fall months, or if you are like some of us....ALL year round! Please give it a try and let us know what you think! 

2 pounds ground beef (browned and drained)

½ cup dried minced onion or 1 large onion, chopped

1 large can (28 ounces) diced “chili ready” or “chili seasoned” tomatoes with liquid

1 can (12 -14 ounces) tomato puree

1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, drained

1 can (4 ounces) diced green chilies, with liquid

1 teaspoon

This weekend you can enjoy another local event! The 13th Annual St. Clair Riverfest is July 27-29, 2017!  It "takes place on the banks of the St. Clair River, this event is one you don’t want to miss.  Enjoy a weekend filled with Boat Races, Live Local and National Music, Great Food, Drinks, fun Novelty Vendors and much more! St. Clair Riverfest attracts all ages with the wide variety of activities. FREE concerts on Friday & Saturday, great food, vendors, and of course the boat races ending the festival on Sunday! Back to School Resolutions!

Those who have school aged children or grandchildren can benefit from coming up with Back-to-School resolutions. Start on August 1st and have each family member come up with something that they would like to do better this school year. By the time school starts, you will have had a month to develop some really great motivational resolutions. You could include the following on your list or simply come up with your own:

  1. Set out clothes the night before
  2. Develop a breakfast and/or lunch menu plan (we discussed this last week in our blog last week)
  3. Wake up 10 minutes early so there is no rushing
  4. Get backpack and everything needed for school ready the night before

Trailside Dairy (Washington Township)

Trailside Dairy is a newer local business in Washington Township. It is located at Campground and Old VanDyke. You can grab your family and drive there or you can hit the Macomb Orchard Trail and make it one of your rest stops! Owner, Mike Sugamosto, recently spoke with Ed Knight at told him that they love being in Washington Township because of the “great location, the people are great, and Macomb County is great.” They have been in business for 10 ½ weeks and are loving being able to provide a place for a delicious treat with a family fun environment. Macomb Township Parks & Recreation Music in The Park

Macomb Township hosts their free summer concert series on Thursday nights at Macomb Corners Park!

There are still three dates left to catch a local band playing their tunes ~ July 19th, July 26th, and August 2nd.
